The Pirna Summer of Sculpture 2022/23 - Symbols in Stone

The Pirna Summer of Sculpture 2022/23 will be presenting the ‘Symbols in Stone’ exhibition to celebrate the 300th birthday of the painter Bernardo Bellotto, better known as ‘Canaletto’ (1722 - 1780). Original Baroque works such as putti and mythological figures will be juxtaposed with contemporary stone sculptures with the generous support from the Pirna Sandstone Works, the Zwinger Workmen’s Hut Dresden and 16 working sculptors from Germany. The exhibition creates particularly attractive lines of tension between the sculptures, but also profound allegories that illuminate the outward appearances and inner essence of what it means to be human. The focus is exclusively on the stone itself.

With works from the Dresden Zwinger by Paul Egell, Christian Kirchner, Johann Joachim Kretzschmar, Balthasar Permoser and others.

Participating artists: Lothar Beck, Marguerite Blume-Cárdenas, Ralf Ehmann, Konstanze Feindt Eißner, Ursula Güttsches, Knut Hüneke, Matthias Jackisch, Susanne Knorr, Peter Makolies, Emerita Pansowová, Joachim Sauter, Michael Schoenholtz, Klaus Schwabe, Jörg Steinert, Bernd Stöcker, Werner Stötzer.
